Best areas to stay in Rio de Janeiro
I have been traveling full time around Brazil for a second time now and spent a lot of time exploring every corner of beautiful Rio de Janeiro. I stayed at different hotels in various areas and I wish I had known more about the different areas before I booked my first trip. So here is my guide to where to stay, with both pros and cons. Hopefully this will make it easier for you to find which area suits your needs best.
Copacabana - Best for First-Time Visitors & Beach Lovers
Copacabana is one of the most iconic neighborhoods in Rio. With its famous curved beach, bustling boardwalk, and lively atmosphere, it’s a great choice for first-time visitors.

Lapa - Best for Nightlife & Culture
Lapa is Rio’s nightlife hub, famous for its samba clubs, street parties, and historic architecture. If you love music, dancing, and a lively atmosphere, this is the place for you.
Pros:

Santa Teresa - Best for a Bohemian Vibe
Santa Teresa is a charming, artsy neighborhood filled with colonial mansions, art galleries, and cozy cafes. It’s great for travelers who want a unique, off-the-beaten-path experience.
