Best Areas To Stay in Ushuaia
Should You Stay in Down Town Ushuaia?
If it’s your first time visiting Ushuaia you’ll most likely want to look for a place to stay in downtown. It’s by far the most convenient location and it’s where most restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, supermarkets, museums, and tour agencies are located. This means you can reach almost everything on foot.
Because Ushuaia is built into the hillside, staying close to the main street Avenida San Martín also means avoiding some of the city's steepest streets.
Should You Stay Outside Down Town Ushuaia?
If staying in the city centre or near to most facilities isn’t important to you, I recommend checking out some of the amazing spots to stay a bit further out. That way you can wake up surrounded by some of the most amazing nature you’ve ever seen, either close to the national park or overlooking the Beagle Channel.
It’s often a bit more pricy, but the views and peaceful atmosphere will definitely make up for it. If you’re staying in Ushuaia for a while you can always combine it and do a couple of nights in the city mixed with a couple of nights in nature.

If you just want to base yourself in downtown Ushuaia there are plenty of great spots to stay at, but here are my favourites that I don’t think you can go wrong with if you want to base yourself near the action.

Hotels on the hillsides or slightly outside the city centre offer some spectacular views that are usually worth the higher price tag. To get here you’ll usually need a taxi or rental car, but the scenery more than makes up for the extra distance.

Is Ushuaia walkable?
Yes, you can easily explore the downtown area on foot. Just be prepared for some steep hills. If you base yourself outside the city you will need a rental car or taxi from time to time.
How many nights should you stay in Ushuaia?
Three to four nights is ideal. This gives you enough time to visit Tierra del Fuego National Park, take a Beagle Channel cruise, ride the End of the World Train, and enjoy the city.

Is it worth staying outside the city centre?
If you're staying at one of Ushuaia's luxury resorts, absolutely. The views are spectacular, and taxis into town are readily available.
Is Ushuaia expensive?
Compared to many other destinations in Argentina, Ushuaia is relatively expensive due to its remote location. Booking accommodation well in advance is recommended, especially during the summer season (December to March). If you want to keep it budget friendly you can check out the hostels I've recommended in the map or one of the hotels with seperate kitchen so you can make food yourself.
