Where to Stay in Nadi, Fiji: Best Areas & Hotels for Every Budget

I spent time exploring Nadi and found that choosing the right area depends a lot on what you're actually planning to do and how long you want to stay there. If you want a social beach atmosphere, I'd look at Wailoaloa. If you're after a full resort holiday, Denarau is the obvious choice. For a quick overnight stay, the airport area makes life much easier if you have no interest in the area and just need a comfortable place for a night.

So, whether you're backpacking Fiji, travelling as a couple, planning a family holiday or simply need somewhere convenient before catching your flight, here's my complete guide to where to stay in Nadi.

This is a great option if you want a proper resort experience without staying all the way out on Denarau Island. The recently revamped resort has seven swimming pools, including pool-access rooms, a spa, fitness centre and a huge choice of dining and cafés.

This is a large beachfront resort in Denarau, with access to the island's golf course, restaurants and other resort facilities. It's a good choice if you want a traditional full-service resort experience with plenty happening around you rather than a small boutique property.

This is one of Denarau's best-known luxury resorts and is a good choice if you want a polished, full-service Fiji holiday. The resort has multiple pools, restaurants, a large spa and a beachfront setting, so you can easily spend several days here without feeling like you need to go anywhere else.

Wailoaloa Beach is the area I'd look at if you want to be near the beach without paying Denarau prices. It's relaxed, social and has a good selection of restaurants, bars, hostels and mid-range hotels.

Denarau Island is where you'll find Fiji's big international resorts, swimming pools, spas, golf and Port Denarau, where many island trips depart. It's more expensive and much more resort-focused, but it's incredibly convenient if your idea of a Fiji holiday involves spending a lot of time at the resort.

Nadi Airport and Namaka are the practical choices. If you're arriving late, leaving early or only have one night in Nadi, staying here means you don't have to spend your first or last day sitting in traffic getting to the airport.

Wailoaloa Beach – Best for beaches, backpackers and sunsets

If you're looking for that classic relaxed Fiji feeling without staying at a huge luxury resort, Wailoaloa Beach would be one of my first choices. Wailoaloa is located in Nadi Bay and has a long stretch of beach, with bars, restaurants and accommodation dotted around the area. It has a much more laid-back and social atmosphere than Denarau, and you'll find everything from backpacker accommodation to modern beachfront resorts.

It's also a good base if you're planning to take day trips to the islands but don't want to spend your entire Fiji budget on accommodation. The beach here isn't the most spectacular you'll see in Fiji, so don't arrive expecting the turquoise lagoons of the Mamanucas, but it is a lovely place for a sunset walk or evening drink.

Another big advantage is that you can walk between several restaurants and bars, which isn't always the case with the large resorts around Denarau.

Best Hotels in Wailoaloa Beach

Wyndham Garden Wailoaloa Beach

This is a comfortable beachfront option that gives you easy access to the sand while keeping you close to the restaurants and bars of Wailoaloa. The hotel has spacious rooms, a swimming pool and an on-site restaurant, making it a good middle ground between a simple beach stay and a full resort experience.

Ramada Suites by Wyndham Wailoaloa Beach

This is particularly useful if you want more space or are staying for several nights rather than simply passing through Nadi. The suites include kitchen facilities and washers and dryers, which can be incredibly useful when you're travelling around Fiji for a while and don't want to eat every meal at a restaurant.

Denarau Island – Best for luxury resorts and island hopping

If your picture of Fiji are huge pools, tropical gardens, spa treatments, cocktails and a resort where you don't really need to leave, Denarau is probably what you're imagining.

Denarau Island is a purpose-built resort area just outside Nadi and is home to some of Fiji's biggest hotels. You'll find multiple large resorts, restaurants, golf, water activities and Port Denarau, which is the main hub for trips to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands.

The biggest advantage of staying here is convenience. You can spend a day on an island, come back to your resort, have dinner, and be back in your room without having to travel far.

The downside is that Denarau is more expensive and more resort-focused than the rest of Nadi. If you're looking for local markets, small restaurants and everyday Fijian life right outside your hotel, I'd choose Wailoaloa or Martintar instead.

Another thing that makes this area practical is that there is a free Bula Bus that connects the major Denarau resorts with Port Denarau where you catch the various islands, while local buses run from Denarau towards Nadi if you want to explore the city too.

Where should you stay in Nadi for the first time?

For a first trip to Fiji, I'd choose Wailoaloa or Denarau, depending on your travel style.

Wailoaloa makes more sense if you want to experience Nadi without spending a fortune on accommodation. You'll have restaurants, bars and the beach nearby, and you can use the money you save on accommodation for island day trips and other experiences.

Denarau makes more sense if the hotel itself is an important part of your holiday. The resorts are large and have plenty of pools, restaurants and activities, and Port Denarau makes getting to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands very convenient.

Where should you stay in Nadi on a budget?

I'd look at Wailoaloa or Martintar first. Wailoaloa has some of Nadi's best selection of inexpensive accommodation, including hostels and simple beachfront hotels, while Martintar gives you easy access to supermarkets, restaurants and other everyday conveniences.

This is also where Nadi can make sense as a budget base for Fiji. Rather than spending your entire holiday at an expensive island resort, you can stay on the mainland and use your savings for a few island day trips.

How many nights should you stay in Nadi?

For most travellers, 2–3 nights is plenty. You can spend one day exploring Nadi itself, including the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, Nadi Town and Wailoaloa Beach, and another day visiting the Garden of the Sleeping Giant and Sabeto Hot Springs.

I'd then use another day for a trip to the Mamanuca Islands if you don't plan on staying on one of the islands themselves.

If you're using Nadi as a budget base, however, you can easily stay longer and take several day trips from here.

Final thoughts: Where would I stay in Nadi?

Nadi isn't somewhere I'd choose one hotel and stay inside for an entire Fiji holiday. I'd use it as a base and starting point before exploring more of the country.

If I wanted to keep costs down while still having a beach nearby, I'd look at Wailoaloa. If I wanted a proper resort holiday with everything taken care of, I'd choose Denarau. For a simple overnight stay before a flight, I'd go straight for the airport area.

The great thing about Nadi is that you don't have to choose between mainland Fiji and the famous islands. You can stay somewhere relatively affordable on Viti Levu and use your time here to explore the surrounding area and take a couple of island day trips. However, if your dream is a secluded beach and crystal clear water then staying on one of the more remote islands is obviously a better choice.
