After spending a week eating my way through Utila, these are the best restaurants, bakeries, and beach bars I actually tried (and loved). So if you’re hungry and wondering where to eat in Utila, here’s your complete foodie guide from one backpacker to another.
Captain Willis – Upscale island seafood worth the splurge
Captain Willis was so good, I’m still dreaming about it. It’s definitely on the pricier side and usually out of our backpacker budget, but we couldn’t resist and I’m glad we didn’t!
It’s tucked away on a quiet side street, it’s calm, cozy, and surprisingly modern. The vibe reminded me of something Scandinavian: clean interiors, friendly service, and soft lighting. It’s a big change from the usual beach-bar look on Utila.
We ordered the fish and chips, split it between two people, and still had leftovers. Huge portions, super fresh seafood, and a slightly fancier island dining experience, totally worth it if you want one “treat yourself” meal in Utila. Most of the menu is seafood, but they do have a few other options.

1140 Restaurant – Local favorite with big portions and tasty variety
We randomly ended up at 1140 because it was next to where we were staying, and then we came back again and again.
The menu is a mix of everything: chicken fingers, quesadillas, sandwiches, pasta. It’s one of those casual spots that always seems to have people in it, which is a good sign on an island with lots of quiet restaurants.
On weekends, it gets packed with locals, so you know it’s legit. Not fancy, but really good food, big portions, and fair prices. A solid go-to for lunch or dinner if you’re hungry and not in the mood to experiment.

Josie’s Bakery – Breakfast, Sandwiches & Great Coffee
We discovered Josie’s Bakery by accident on the way home from Captain Willis and ended up coming back the next morning. It’s open only until 2 pm, and perfect for breakfast or brunch.
We had a giant sandwich and a Caesar salad, both excellent. The coffee was also really good, and the whole place has that “come sit and work for a while” vibe, with cozy indoor and outdoor seating.
And the staff was so friendly and happy it was contagious. If you’re looking for a relaxed place to start your day, this is it.

Forking Baguettes – Fast, fresh and tasty lunch spot
Forking Baguettes is kind of like a local version of Subway, but better. It’s a fast lunch stop with lots of options for pastries and filled baguettes.
We grabbed sandwiches here for a quick bite, and they were fresh and super satisfying. Just a heads up: unless you ask, they’ll serve it cold. If you want it toasted (which I recommend), ask when ordering. It costs a tiny bit extra but it’s worth it. This place is perfect for takeaway before a dive or beach day.
Munchies – Underrated new spot with great vibes
Munchies might be a newer place (there were no Google reviews when we visited), but it’s 100% worth checking out.
The inside is super cute, very curated and cozy, and they’ve got a lovely outdoor area out back that’s magical in the evenings. We tried the fajitas and would absolutely order them again. Friendly service, affordable food, and a really welcoming vibe. I’m honestly surprised it’s not more popular yet.

Mango Tango – Looks meh outside, but totally worth it
Okay, I’ll admit I walked past Mango Tango a few times thinking, “meh.” It looks kind of boring from the street. But don’t judge a restaurant by its exterior!
Once you’re inside, it’s a whole other story. The interior is cozy, and they’ve got a terrace overlooking the water that’s perfect for a sunset dinner. The food? Delicious. We could totally see why this is one of Utila’s more talked-about places. Don’t skip it!

Neptune’s Beach Bar – Not Just a Restaurant, It’s a Whole Experience
You can’t come to Utila without visiting Neptune’s, but don’t just go for the food, go for the whole experience.
Neptune’s is a beach club that you can only reach by boat. It’s one of the best beach areas in Utila, with white sand, loungers, clear water, and a fun beach bar vibe. The food isn't the best on Utila, but the vibes and drinks make up for it!

Honorable Mentions
Here are a few other places I heard good things about but didn’t get a chance to try (next time!):
- Skid Row Bar & Grill – Burgers and beers, with the iconic shot challenge.
- The Venue – A popular dinner and live music spot.
- Coral View Restaurant – A good view and a fancier menu.
- RJ’s Barbecue – Local favorite for grilled meats and seafood (open a few nights a week).
Final Thoughts: Where to eat in Utila, Honduras
Utila might be a small island, but it’s packed with many great restaurants and bars! Whether you’re on a tight budget or ready for a splurge, there are lots of great restaurants, local cafes, and laid-back eateries to try.
My top picks? Captain Willis for a nicer seafood dinner, Josie’s Bakery for breakfast and coffee and 1140 for an easy go-to meal any time of day.
