The top things to do in Caye Caulker in 2025
Yes, Caye Caulker is indeed one of the best places to just hang back and relax, their motto is after all to take it slow. However, if you want to do something else there is no shortage of things to do on this tiny island. I’ve put together a list of my favorite things to do here in Caye caulker. Some pretty chill ones and some that require a bit more planning. Most of these things wont cost you anything, but I’ve also added a couple of amazing things to experience with a slightly higher price point at the end.

Hang out at the Lazy lizard
This is one of the most famous places on Caye Caulker, and it’s popular for a reason. Located at one end of the island, in an area called The Split, you’ll find a lively bar with lots of colorful chairs to relax in the sun. They also have a high dive you can jump from. It’s lots of fun! You can also choose to just walk down a couple of ladders into the water and swim from there. This area is popular both for families with kids choosing to swim in the secluded area, and for teenagers and backpackers choosing to jump of the high dive or swim further into the water. The water is very shallow for a while so you can easily walk around in different areas. There were also lots of people snorkeling here. I’m not sure how much they saw, but they seemed to enjoy it.
You can enjoy this area as long as you buy something in the bar. Not that anyone really checked.

Enjoy Bliss beach on the northern island
I almost didn’t do this because I was unsure if Bliss beach was worth the travel, but I’m so glad I did. This was probably my favorite day and definitely my favorite beach in Caye Calker. Because it’s located on the tip of the northern island it’s harder to get to, but it’s worth it.
To get there you need to take the split ferry over. It takes about 3 minutes so it‘s not a long trip. They have ferries that both take golf carts and bicycles as well. Just walk to the end of The Split and you’ll find the ferry. I highly recommend renting a bicycle the day you go there because Bliss beach is located on the opposite side of the island, so walking there will take you at least an hour in the sweltering heat. And to be honest there really isn’t anything else to see on the island other than Bliss beach. Almost all of the northern island was under construction. My guess is that it will be full of life in a couple of years, but for now you can enjoy Bliss beach without the huge crowds. You can spend time in the hammocks and beach chairs on Bliss beach for free as long as you buy something in the bar.

Sip n’ Dip - Have a drink in the water
This is a similar place to the Lazy Lizard and located not far from it. The difference here is that you have to pay an entrance fee, whereas on the Lazy Lizard you just have to use their bar. Another difference is that their chairs and tables are located in the water. So if you just want to enjoy your drink while swimming or relaxing in the water, this place is for you.

Stingray beach - swim and relax at the only beach
This is the only nice beach on Caye Caulker in my opinion, not taking into account Bliss beach which is on the northern island. When I say that I mean a beach where you can just walk in to the water from the sand. They have beach chairs that belong to the Iguana Reef Hotel, but you can rent them for 10USD or just use some of their other chairs as long as you buy something from their bar. It’s a very relaxed and quiet place and I really liked it here. They have swings and hammocks in the water to relax in. This is also one of the best places to watch the sunset. We spent a day just relaxing here and loved it! Most people head to Lazy Lizard or Sip n’ Dip so this feels more calm.

Seahorse sanctuary
If you go to stingray beach and turn left, you’ll find a little habitat for seahorses all the way at the end. They’re very small and can be pretty hard to spot, but you might get lucky and see one. I looked for about ten minutes before i was able to spot one. Adrian went looking later on and was lucky enough to see one swimming about.

See the feeding of stingrays
This is also an activity located on Stingray beach and organized by the Iguana Reef Hotel. Between 4:00PM and sunset (the times changed every time I was there) someone comes out and feeds the stingrays. When they do, the stingrays come up all the way to the shore and swim between your feet. It’s pretty cool and not something I’ve seen anywhere else. They also teach people about the stingrays while they’re feeding them.

Try paddle boarding or kayaking around the island
You’ll find lots of places on the main street and around The Split that rent out paddle boards and kayaks if you want to explore the shoreline around the island on your own. The water is calm, crystal clear, and usually bathwater-warm so this would be a perfect place to do it. If you’re lucky you might even spot a stingray or school of fish gliding below you.
Relax in a hammock at Ice and Beans
This might be my favorite «activity» on Caye Caulker. Ice and Beans have an amazing area on the beach full of hammocks and cute yellow chairs overlooking the water. I’ve lost count of how many hours I actually spent there, but it was a lot. I usually had my breakfast, lunch or some of their super delicious donuts and relaxed for a bit. It’s a very nice spot to just hang out and do nothing.

Snorkel for a full or half day
We didn’t have the best of luck with spotting marine life on our snorkel adventure, but it was nevertheless and amazing experience. Caye Caulker is minutes away from the second largest barrier reef in the world so I highly recommend doing a snorkeling tour. There are plenty of companies to book tours from on Caye Caulker and we ended up with The Caveman Tours. They had the best price, were eco-friendly and very nice. Our favorite stop was definitely Shark Ray Alley where you get to swim amongst nurse sharks and stingrays. It was such an amazing experience. We also looked for manatees, turtles and fish, but had less luck with this. We opted for a half day tour and felt like that was more than enough for us. We got to hit all the spots we wanted and it was more aligned with our budget. They also offer full day tours if you want to spend the whole day snorkeling.

Tarpon feeding dock
Some of the snorkel tours will take you here to watch and feed the Tarpons. But if you don’t do a snorkel tour or they don’t stop here, it’s still a place I would check out. The tarpons are huge and know that they will be fed in this area so they stick around apparently. We got to feed some on our snorkeling tour and even though it was quite scary it was also very fun. I would recommend coming in the morning when the snorkel tours might be on their way there for the best chance of seeing them jump up and eat. Otherwise you can definitely see them swimming around! I’m not sure I would advice anyone to try feeding them by yourselves if you don‘t know what your are doing though.

Get up for sunrise
Maybe not an activity, but definitely something I recommend. I usually don’t get up at the crack of dawn to watch sunrises, but I’m so glad I did it here. I got up for sunrise one morning and it was absolutely insane. I cozied up in one of the chairs at Ice and Beans and watched it all alone. It was amazing! It felt like I had the whole island to myself before everyone woke up and the sunrise was absolutely stunning!

Watch the sunset from Iguana bar or Pelican sunset bar
The sunset might beat the sunrise though, but just maybe. Caye Caulker has some of the best sunsets I’ve seen, it’s absolutely amazing! My favorite locations to see it from is at the Pelican sunset bar or the Iguana Reef beach bar. However, if you just walk along the side of the island at sunset time you‘ll find lots of piers to walk out on if you want a nice picture without people, or maybe just bring you own beer and sit down where you feel like it.
Alternatively you can opt to take a sunset boat tour to truly enjoy the views with a drink in your hand.

Walk dogs at the dog shelter
I personally didn’t do this, but I saw lots of people doing it and they seemed to love it. There’s a pretty popular dog shelter located in the center of the island that works to take good care of all the dogs, and trust me there are lots of them. They’re always looking for help with donations, but they will also let you come in and help out if you want to by just cuddling or taking them for a walk. So if you’re a dog person this is probably a super nice activity to add to your plan. Just look for the purple fence door and you’ll find them.

Bike around the island
Yes, you can absolutely do this if you want to explore the island, but I only recommend it if you don’t have much time on the island. I only rented a bike wen we went to Bliss beach, other than that I walked everywhere. It’s not a big island, so it‘s absolutely doable to explore it without a bike. However, I know lots of people have less time than I had there and want to explore as much as possible. If that’s the case then renting a bike for the day is a great option. They rent out bikes almost at every hotel so finding one should not be a problem.

Visit the Great Blue Hole
So this is where it gets a bit pricier. The Blue Hole is one of Belize’s most popular attractions and you can actually see it both from the sky and from below the surface while diving. It’s about 2.5 hours by boat from Caye Caulker and is only for experienced divers—but it’s one of the most iconic dives in the world. So if you‘re a certified diver this is probably one of the coolest things to do. I’m not, so I can’t give any personal tips, but its a very popular thing to do from any of the Cay islands
Another option is to see it from the sky. I really, really wanted to do this but the price was just too high for my backpacking budget. So I’m saving it for later.

I hope you’ve found some amazing things to do while visiting Caye Caulker. I’m sure whatever you end up doing there, you’ll have the best time just as I did.
