There are over 200 inhabited islands in Greece, but few feel as unique as Milos. This is an island shaped by volcanic forces, which means surreal landscapes with red cliffs, white caves and beaches that look like they belong on another planet. And it still feels authentically Greek.
Milos is slowly growing in popularity, but it's far from a crowded island, so my advice is to go there before everyone catches on.

The Best Things to Do in Milos
As always I’ll start with the fun part first, namely the top things to do in Milos. If you also want more practical information like my favourite restaurants, the places I recommend staying and more, just scroll further down and you’ll find everything you need to plan your perfect trip.
Swim at Sarakiniko Beach
If you’ve seen photos of Milos, chances are you’ve seen Sarakiniko.
This is the iconic white lunar landscape that makes the island famous. You can walk around and jump off from white and smooth volcanic rock formations, or swim in the natural pools created here.
A few things worth noting is that there aren't many spots with shade here, so if that's important to you, you should head over there early to secure a spot or come later in the day when the sun isn't so intense.
Another thing is that even though the area is famous for cliff jumping, you're not guaranteed the possibility to jump in. When I visited in July I was told that the current was usually too strong for jumping that time of year. So don't get disappointed if you can't jump into the water or swim around in the caves. However, it's still a breathtakingly beautiful place that needs to be visited.

Take a Catamaran Around the Island
A full-day catamaran tour will take you around the southern coastline, where you’ll visit sea caves, hidden beaches, and secret coves that are inaccessible by car. You’ll likely stop near Kleftiko and see the towering white rock formations rising out of the sea, which was once used by pirates as hiding spots. You can choose to go snorkelling or just swim and relax in the boat.
If you only do one activity in Milos, make it a boat trip.

Wander Through Klima
Klima is one of the most charming fishing villages in Greece. It’s filled with tiny, colorful boat houses (called syrmata) which line the shore. Fishermen used to store their boats on the ground floor and lived above them. Today, some have been converted into unique accommodations like this one if you want to spend the night here.
If you're exploring the island by car or ATV, there is a decent parking spot here so that wont be a problem. There is also a cute restaurant here if you want to stay for lunch or dinner.
Another cute, but even smaller fishing village you can choose to visit is Mandrakia. This is home to the famous Medusa restaurant where you can grab some fresh seafood for lunch if you're lucky enough to get a table.

Explore Plaka
Plaka is another charming town I recommend visiting. It’s the islands hilltop capital and if you stay for sunset you’ll have one of the best views of Milos.
Spend some time wandering the charming streets filled with little shops and cafes. It’s romantic and not overly crowded. You can also climb up to the Venetian castle ruins above the village for panoramic views across the Aegean.

Climb the Ladder to Tsigrado
If you’re up for a little adventure, head over to Tsigrado beach. To get there you need to squeeze through rocks and climb down a pretty steep set of stairs.
If you’re very afraid of heights I actually don't recommend visiting. Even I who isn't afraid of heights thought this was a bit uncomfortable. For everyone else it’s perfectly fine and absolutely worth the effort.
The fact that it’s a bit more remote also means that it wont be packed with people, which is nice.

Relax at Fyriplaka
Tsigrado Beach and Fyriplaka Beach sit next to each other along the southern coast. So if you prefer something more accessible to the adventure mentioned above, head over to Fyriplaka. The beach is surrounded by towering red cliffs and clear water. It's a perfect spot to spend the day relaxing.

Visit the Catacombs
This is a spot I didn't prioritise visiting while on Milos, but I'm still adding it here so you can choose to set aside some time for it if you choose.
The Catacombs date back to early Christian times and are among the most important in Greece. It’s a quick stop, but for those very interested in history it's probably a very fun one.
