Bangkok is one of those cities that looks completely different once you get above the traffic. Down on the streets, it can be hot, chaotic and incredibly busy. But head up 30, 40 or even 60 floors and suddenly you're looking out over a sea of skyscrapers, glowing temples, winding roads and the Chao Phraya River. And this is exactly why Bangkok's rooftop bars are so popular.

There are an insane amount of rooftop bars in Bangkok, ranging from tiny neighbourhood rooftops to some of the most famous sky bars in the world. Some are all about the view, some are better for cocktails, some turn into proper nightlife venues and others are perfect relaxing by the pool with a drink in hand.

The tricky part is choosing which one to visit. After visiting Bangkok countless times and even spending a month there on my last visit I've put together this guide to the best rooftop bars in Bangkok to help you choose based on what kind of evening you actually want. Whether you're looking for the most famous Bangkok sky bar, a romantic rooftop for a date, somewhere with great sunset views, a lively rooftop with DJs or a more relaxed place that doesn't feel quite as touristy, you'll find an option here.

What makes Bangkok's rooftop bars so special?

Bangkok has the perfect combination for rooftop bars: a huge skyline, warm evenings and enough skyscrapers to make the views genuinely impressive. And you don't necessarily have to go to the highest rooftop to get an amazing view. Some lower rooftops have fantastic panoramas simply because there aren't tall buildings immediately surrounding them.

Sunset is particularly popular. Bangkok's sunset generally falls around 6pm to 6:50pm throughout the year, so arriving around 30–45 minutes before sunset gives you time to get settled and watch the city change from daylight to darkness.

Just remember that rooftop bars are not necessarily cheap. Cocktails at many of the more upscale venues are commonly several hundred baht, while the famous luxury rooftops can be considerably more expensive. But honestly, I think a rooftop drink is one of those things worth including in a Bangkok itinerary at least once.

Vertigo & Moon Bar at Banyan Tree Bangkok

Vertigo and Moon Bar are two of Bangkok's classic rooftop experiences. They are located on the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Bangkok hotel in the Sathorn area. It’s one of my personal favourite spots because you get truly amazing views of the city and the view from the Moon bar over the Vertigo restaurant is also stunning.

It’s important to know that they are two different spots. Vertigo is the restaurant, while Moon Bar is the place to go if you're mainly interested in drinks. I personally never ate here so I can’t comment on the food, but the vibe and drinks were amazing. The setting is particularly beautiful around sunset, when the Bangkok skyline starts changing from hazy daylight into thousands of city lights.

This is one I'd choose for a romantic Bangkok date night, anniversary or special occasion rather than a casual night out with a group of friends. It’s perfect if you want a quiet drink with your partner rather than loud music and a party atmosphere.

Sky Beach at The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon

If height is what you're after, Sky Beach is hard to beat. It’s located at the top of The Standard Bangkok Mahanakhon in Silom, and sits on the 78th floor of the iconic building. You’ll get spectacular 360-degree views across Bangkok.

The Mahanakhon building itself is hard to miss. Its pixelated, seemingly unfinished design has become one of Bangkok's modern architectural landmarks and Sky Beach feels considerably more modern than the old-school hotel rooftops. Here you can expect great cocktails, music, a younger crowd and a more playful atmosphere.

You can also combine this with the Mahanakhon SkyWalk if you want to experience the famous glass-floor observation deck during the day.

Octave Rooftop Lounge & Bar

Octave is one of the rooftop bars I'd recommend if you want the view but also want an actual night out. It’s located at the 49th floor on Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit and it stretches across several floors, with the top level offering a spectacular 360-degree view of Bangkok.

The location in Thonglor also gives it a different crowd from some of the more tourist-focused rooftops. You'll find a mix of visitors, expats and Bangkok locals. The atmosphere gets livelier as the night goes on, and there is usually a pretty good DJ there in the evenings.

I think this is perfect for a groups of friends, couples who want some atmosphere, solo travellers and anyone looking for a rooftop bar that can turn into a proper night out.

Tichuca Rooftop Bar

If you’ve done any research on social media yet, you’ve probably seen Tichuca on Instagram. The rooftop became famous for its huge glowing structure that hangs over the terrace and looks a little like a giant illuminated tree or jellyfish. It makes for one of the most recognisable rooftop photos in Bangkok. I have to say that it does look pretty cool, especially after sunset when it’s all lit up. It’s located on the 46th floor of the T-One Building in the Thonglor area.

But Tichuca isn't only about the photo. The rooftop has a young, international crowd and a more casual atmosphere than many of Bangkok's luxury hotel rooftops. It's the kind of place where you can come dressed up, take some photos, order a cocktail and either head onwards or stay for a party. Both are great options.

It’w worth knowing that because it’s so popular there might be a long line to get in and if you’re not early your chances of getting a table are pretty slim. Another thing is that you actually have to order and pay for a drink before you even get to the top. Many bars have a minimum spend, but this is the only place I experienced it being so strict.

This is a spot for younger travellers, couples, friends, content creators and anyone who wants a fun and photogenic Bangkok rooftop bar. If you're looking for a quiet romantic evening, I'd choose somewhere else.

TRIBE Sky Beach Club

If you're looking for a Bangkok rooftop bar that feels more like a stylish day club than a traditional sky bar, TRIBE Sky Beach Club is a fun option to add to your list.

TRIBE Sky Beach Club combines a rooftop setting with a pool, cocktails, food and music, so you can come earlier in the day and stay into the evening. It is open from late morning until around 1am, making it quite different from Bangkok's more formal hotel rooftop bars.

The atmosphere is much more relaxed and you can spend the swimming, relaxing and grabbing a drink. Think lounging by the pool, cocktails, music and hanging out with friends, rather than dressing up specifically for a sunset drink.

It’s not a rooftop bar like the others, but I still think it deserves a spot here. The views are great, the drinks good and it’s just a nice spot to relax. I personally prefer it for a daytime activity, but you can combine it or just come in the evening too.

TRIBE Sky Beach Club

Above Eleven

Above Eleven is one of my favourite types of Bangkok rooftop because it isn't just somewhere you go for the view. You can actually make an entire evening out of it. The restaurant combines Peruvian and Japanese-inspired cuisine with cocktails and a huge Bangkok skyline view. Its location above Fraser Suites on Sukhumvit Soi 11 also puts you right in one of Bangkok's biggest nightlife areas.

The atmosphere is lively without feeling like a full-on nightclub, making it a good option if you're travelling with friends or want somewhere that works for both dinner and drinks. I'd book a table around sunset and stay for dinner and a drink of two before heading out afterwards.

Spire at Dusit Thani Bangkok

Spire is one of the newer additions to Bangkok's rooftop scene and is located on the 39th floor at the new Dusit Thani Bangkok in Silom. The rooftop looks across Lumphini and Benjakitti parks, giving it a slightly different view from many of the rooftops that focus purely on skyscrapers.

The design is relaxed and sophisticated without feeling overly formal. It’s not a party spot, but a great one to come for after exploring the parks and just want to relax with a glass of wine or a drink while watching the sunset. They also serve food, but I personally didn’t try it.

This is one I'd keep in mind if you've already done the famous Bangkok rooftops and want something a little newer.

ÆTHER Rooftop

ÆTHER is another one of Bangkok's newer rooftop bars and takes a slightly different approach from the classic rooftop formula. Rather than filling the space with gimmicks, the design is minimalist and the focus is on cocktails, music and the view.

From the 44th floor of Dusit Central Park, you get 360-degree views across Bangkok and Lumphini Park. If you're looking for somewhere that feels more like a sophisticated cocktail lounge than a traditional hotel rooftop, this is one to put on your list. Golden hour is the time I'd choose, but the bar also gets more atmospheric as the evening progresses and the city lights start appearing below.

You can also combine ÆTHER with Spire since they're in the same Dusit Central Park complex. starting with a slow evening at Spire and then head to ÆTHER for a slightly more party vibe.

Yào Rooftop Bar

Yào is a good option if the thought of being packed into a huge rooftop bar isn't particularly appealing. The rooftop has views across the Bangkok skyline and towards the Chao Phraya River, while the design has a modern Chinese influence.

It feels more like somewhere you can actually sit down and have a conversation even though there is often a DJ there. It has a great atmosphere, but still feels calm and relaxed. That makes it a particularly nice choice for couples or anyone who wants a rooftop drink without the full party atmosphere.

Sky Bar at Lebua State Tower

If you've searched for rooftop bars in Bangkok before, you've almost certainly seen Sky Bar at Lebua. This is the famous one, so even though I personally thought it was a bit too much I’m still adding it.

Sky Bar became internationally recognised after appearing in The Hangover Part II, and its location high above the Chao Phraya River makes it one of Bangkok's most recognisable rooftop experiences. The glowing bar, huge skyline and river views make it difficult not to stop and take a few photos. The atmosphere is glamorous rather than casual, and this is definitely somewhere people come to experience rather than just grab a cheap drink.

One thing to know before you go is that you're paying for the location. Cocktails are considerably more expensive than what you'd pay at a normal Bangkok bar, so I wouldn't choose Sky Bar if you're looking for budget drinks. Because it’s so famous it’s also usually pretty full and just getting to the top can be quite tricky.

But if this is your first time in Bangkok and you want to experience one of the city's most famous sky bars, it is hard to ignore. I came here on my first visit to Bangkok and even though it’s mostly fun because of the movies it was a fun night. However it has to be said that I’ve not chosen to go back at any of my more recent visits to Bangkok. I think this is best described as a one-time-experience for fun, not a place you come for a relaxing evening with drinks.

What is the best rooftop bar in Bangkok for sunset?

If sunset is your main priority, I'd choose a rooftop with a genuinely open view rather than simply choosing the highest building.

Some of the rooftops I'd consider for sunset include:

For skyline sunset: Vertigo & Moon Bar, Octave, Spire and ÆTHER.

For a lively sunset: Tichuca or Octave.

The most important thing is when you arrive. Don't arrive at 7pm expecting to get a great sunset view. Bangkok's sunset is generally around 6pm–6:50pm throughout the year, so I'd aim to arrive roughly 30–45 minutes beforehand.

What is the best rooftop bar in Bangkok for couples?

For a romantic Bangkok evening, I'd look at Vertigo & Moon Bar, Yào or Spire. These generally have more of a sophisticated lounge atmosphere rather than a party-bar feel. If you're celebrating something special, Vertigo is particularly suited to the occasion, while ThreeSixty is a great option if you'd rather have river views and live jazz.

What is the best rooftop bar in Bangkok for nightlife?

If you want your rooftop experience to continue beyond sunset, look at Octave, Tichuca or ÆTHER. These venues have more emphasis on music and atmosphere, with some becoming noticeably livelier later in the evening. Octave in particular is designed as a multi-level experience, with the top floor becoming more energetic as the night progresses.

What is the best rooftop bar in Bangkok for photos?

If you're looking for the most Instagrammable rooftop bars in Bangkok, Tichuca is an obvious choice because of its famous illuminated installation. Sky Beach at Mahanakhon is another great option because you're surrounded by Bangkok's skyline from an enormous height. And if you want the classic Bangkok rooftop photo, Sky Bar at Lebua is still one of the most recognisable.

Just remember that the most photogenic rooftop isn't necessarily the one with the best overall evening. Some of Bangkok's smaller rooftops can actually be much more enjoyable if you want to sit down, talk and have a relaxed drink.

What should you wear to a rooftop bar in Bangkok?

This is one of the things I would definitely check before heading out. Many of Bangkok's high-end rooftop bars have smart-casual dress codes, and some are considerably stricter than you might expect.

At some of the more upscale venues, men may be required to wear long trousers and closed shoes, while shorts, sportswear, flip-flops and sleeveless tops can be refused. Sky Bar at Lebua is particularly strict about its dress code.

My advice is to keep one nice outfit and proper shoes available during your Bangkok trip. It is much easier than getting dressed up, travelling across Bangkok and then being told you can't go upstairs.

Do you need to book Bangkok rooftop bars?

For the popular rooftop bars, I would book if you know when you want to go. This is especially true for Friday and Saturday evenings around sunset. Some rooftops accept walk-ins, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the table or view you were hoping for.

For smaller rooftops, arriving early can sometimes work well. For the most famous bars, booking ahead is safer. And always check the current rules before going because minimum spends, reservations and access policies can change.

Are Bangkok rooftop bars expensive?

Yes, compared with normal bars in Bangkok. You're paying for the view, location, service and atmosphere, so don't expect street-level Bangkok prices.

A cocktail at a mid-range rooftop can often be several hundred baht, while the most famous luxury rooftops can be considerably more expensive. On my last visit in 2026 many of the drinks cost roughly 400–700+ baht, with some of the most famous venues considerably higher. We usually grab a glass of wine and a beer which is a bit cheaper and hat we prefer, but some places have a minimum spend so you’ll end up in that price range or more anyways.

There isn't one rooftop bar that works for everyone. If it's your first trip to Bangkok, Sky Bar, Sky Beach or Vertigo give you that classic high-rise Bangkok experience.

If you're looking for a romantic evening, I'd look at Vertigo & Moon Bar, Spire or Yào. For nightlife and music, Octave and Tichuca and are better suited.

The best part is that Bangkok has so many rooftop bars that you don't have to choose the same type of experience every night. You can do the famous one for sunset, find a smaller rooftop another evening and then spend another night somewhere with DJs and cocktails.
