What I loved most about eating in Con Dao was how relaxed everything felt. There are no giant tourist restaurant strips here. Instead, you find small family-run spots scattered around the island, and they have some seriosly good food! Since we stayed here for a couple of weeks and ate all our meals out, I can safely say we tried our fair share of spots on the island.
Con Dao Restaurants You Can’t Miss
All of the spots below are places we came back to again and again during our weeks on Con Dao.
Infiniti
I’ll start strong with my favourite place on the island. If you only have one day on Con Dao you have to get at least one meal here. I think we tried the whole menu after a while and it's the first time we’ve actually enjoyed every single meal we've tried. That's huge praise from me!
It’s located in the middle of the city, but the organic design makes it feel a bit tucked away. Inside you’ll find a very elegant and modern restaurant that still feels cozy. You can come for any meal and have an amazing experience.

Food Market & Night Market
If you want to experience local food culture in Con Dao, spend some time wandering through the market. During the daytime you wont really find anything to eat, but you can see all the things they are selling which is fun enough for me.
If you come back in the evening, especially during the weekend you’ll find it packed with people enjoying fresh seafood. I honestly don't think I’ve ever seen so many various shellfish in my life. I highly recommend coming here even if you don't want to eat, just witness it.

Yin Yang
This is the first restaurant we went to and we kept coming back again and again. They have a huge menu consisting solely of Vietnamese dishes, and everything we tried was super delicious. It’s located on the beach side outside the city centre, and has a very eclectic and charming vibe with mismatched furniture.
It’s run by a German husband and Vietnamese wife and feels very homey with their kids running around playing while they’re working. If you want some really good Vietnamese food this is the spot I would head to.

Bar 200
Bar 200 is the only beachfront restaurant we found. It feels very casual and relaxed, but serves up some truly good and budget friendly food.
The menu is huge and they serve everything from pizzas and burgers to really good Asian dishes. Our favourites ended up being the lemon pasta and the ginger chicken which were both really good.

An Oi
This is one of my favourite lunch or brunch spots on the island. They have two different menus. One consisting of breakfast foods served before 11 and one with more filling foods after that. The menu mixes Vietnamese dishes with healthy international dishes, and they do it really well.
The atmosphere is simple and cozy, and it feels much more personal than larger restaurants. It has a bit of a backpacker vibe, and even though there weren't that many tourist here when we were visiting, I can picture backpackers coming here to grab a nice breakfast.
Its run by a Vietnamese mom and daughter who were both super sweet!

I personally use SafetyWing and highly recommend it for every kind of trip. Check their prices & plans here.
Thu Ba
If you only eat seafood once in Con Dao, make it here. Thu Ba is one of the island’s most famous seafood restaurants, and after eating here, I completely understood why. The seafood is incredibly fresh, portions are generous, and the atmosphere feels lively without becoming overly touristy.

Madame Ha
Madame Hà is easily one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Con Dao. Even those who normally eat meat will like this place. The menu focuses on Vietnamese vegetarian dishes packed with flavour, and the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming. We especially loved the curries here.

Riso Amaro
Finding genuinely good Italian food on a tiny Vietnamese island was not something I expected. However, located on the rooftop above the supermarket you’ll find a super charming restaurant serving some delicious Italian food. They have everything from pizza and pasta to really good chicken.
I never watched the sunset here, but I can imagine it being really nice.

Ga Minh Bistro
We just stumbled upon this spot on a a rainy day when we needed somewhere to sit for a while. We got some noodles, and it was really really good. Later on I learned that this is actually a quite famous spot in Con Dao because all the noodles are homemade and fresh. So if you're looking for some fresh and delicious noodles, this is the spot to visit.

I always set up an eSIM before flying so I'm connected the moment I arrive. Compare the best plans from Airalo here.
May Bistro
This is the one place where Adrian and I had different experiences, so even though I personally didn't love my food I’m adding it here.
The restaurant is located on the outskirts of the city, but it’s a really charming spot with cozy interior and really nice staff. Adrian tried a Vietnamese dish and really liked it. I however tried a burrito and should have know better. Ordering Mexican food at a Vietnamese restaurant with almost only Vietnamese dishes is usually never a great idea.
The Vietnamese food is really good, so just learn from my mistake and stick to what they are good at and you’ll probably have a really great lunch or dinner here, just like Adrian did.

The Secret restaurant
The Secret Restaurant feels a bit different from most places in Con Dao. The atmosphere here is elegant and surprisingly polished for such a remote island. However, the prices also reflect this. It's not crazy expensive, but definitely has a higher price point than other places we ate at during our time here. But if you want something a bit fancy, this is a great spot. It’s also located by the water front so you’ll have a really nice view over the promenade and ocean.

Final Thoughts on Where to Eat in Con Dao
One of the things I loved about Con Dao was how much the food added to the experience of exploring the island. From fresh seafood and traditional Vietnamese dishes to little cafés where you can slow down with a coffee, there are plenty of places worth discovering between beach days and island adventures. The food scene here is perhaps not as diverse as in Vietnam's bigger cities, but I was still surprised at how much great food you could get here and it made our stay here so much better and is one of the reasons we kept extending our time on Con Dao.
